On the occasion of the European Archaeology Days, the Vilnius City B. Dankvartas String Instrument Workshop and School invites you to a free educational event "Forgotten Violin Masters of Old Vilnius".

During the education, participants will get acquainted with the rich history of Vilnius string instrument production and the city's exceptional musical heritage. The story will tell about the old Vilnius violin masters, who not only created musical instruments, but also shaped the cultural life of the city. Their works were famous for their high craftsmanship, unique solutions and were appreciated not only in Lithuania, but also throughout Europe.

During the event, special attention will be paid to the Dankvartai family of masters who operated in Vilnius in the 16th century, whose representatives significantly contributed to the cultivation of the traditions of string instrument making. Participants will learn how the instruments were created, what materials were used for their production, what distinguished the works of Vilnius masters and why their instruments have remained valued to this day.

This is a great opportunity to get to know a lesser-known page of Vilnius' history, revealing the significance of the city as an important center of music and crafts and the legacy of old masters, which still inspires new generations of instrument makers.
